Blog #6

Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Service learning offers a unique opportunity for America's young people to get involved with their communities. This helps them to become actively contributing citizens and community members through the service they perform. Threw service learning students can build character and become active participants as they work with others in their school and community to create service projects in areas like education and environment. Service learning offers all its participants a chance to take part in the active education of youth while addressing the concerns, needs, and hopes of communities. My expectations for this project is to simply help and provide my services wherever it is needed to help Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization any way possible. I will also use this experience as a learning tool to help me acquire knowledge about things that I may not know. It will give me a chance to work in a group environment and also work with an organization that’s gives back so much to the community. The skills and knowledge that I will be able to take from this experience and use it in my future career are that it will broaden my perspectives and enhances critical thinking skills, improve my interpersonal and human relation skills which are increasingly viewed as the most important skills in achieving success in professional and personal circles, provides guidance and experience for future career choice, provide experience which can be used on my resume and future college applications, and it develops my network of support and professional contacts.
